Pig Iron Theatre Company and The Pig Iron School are housed in the historic Crane Old School and we offer three spaces for rental.
History
The Old School is on 2nd St. between Master and Jefferson, right down the street from base camp at Crane Arts. The building consists of 20 existing classrooms between 500 and 3,000+ sq. ft. with large windows bringing in lots of natural light. The school was built in 1891 for St. Michael’s parish whose first church was the focal point of the Know-Nothing Riots. The building backs up to the church’s cemetery with its beautiful sycamore trees creating an urban oasis. The school is a three story building with no elevator, but a very wide staircase. Ample off street parking for tenants and guests.
Pig Iron Theatre Company’s two smaller spaces (Studio B and Studio C) are excellent for theatre/dance rehearsals, and suitable for a wide variety of other activities including photo shoots, special events, and fitness instruction. Studio A is a larger space, suitable for parties or intimate theatre performances.
The spaces are 3.5 blocks away from the Girard Station on the Market-Frankford Line, and are also immediately accessible via the Girard Avenue Trolley. Additionally, we are a ten-minute walk from the ACME supermarket on Girard and 2nd, as well as Johnny Brendas, Kung Fu Necktie, Paesano’s, and the Schmidt’s Commons.
